Pomerans maintenance

Your tip should be rough. Tiptoes are made of leather. If the tip is rough, the chalk can hold well. Over time, the cue will bounce (the cue slides off the ball). You can roughen the cue tip again with a special sanding file that you receive when you purchase a cue. We also have various other sanding and sharpening materials for your tippet. Make sure that you spread the chalk, so move the chalk up and down and do not hollow out the chalk.

Various types of cucumbers

Tiptoes are usually made of cowhide or pigskin (layered).
We recommend the layered tip. This is because it holds the chalk better. The tip also remains in better shape, has good resilience and lasts much longer. The most sold pomerans here are the Da Vinci pomerans or Kamui pomerans.

Renew Pomerans

You can have this carried out professionally by us. Ready while you wait. Would you like to renew your tip yourself? Then do it as follows:

  1. It is important that the top of the white cap (ferule) is flat
is and remains. You can do this with a Stanley knife or with a “sanding ring” or “cue tip sander Tefco”. Never sand by hand because then the cap will not be flat but convex and the tip will not have a good adhesive surface.
  2. Roughen the bottom of the new tip on a flat piece of sandpaper (better adhesive bond).
  3. Recommended glue to use: “Artemis” tip glue that can still be corrected after gluing.
  4. After one-sided gluing, clamp the tip under a tip clamp.
  5. After drying (at least 30 minutes), you can touch up the tip with a special tip sharpener or carefully with a file.
  6. Sand the top of the tip into shape (slightly convex) and roughen it.
  7. Ready for use.

All of the above products can be found on our website.

Who invented the cucumber tip?

The Frenchman François Mingaud, born on January 4, 1771 in Le Cailar, near Nimes, in southern France, is generally regarded as the inventor of the billiard tip, the indispensable piece of leather at the end of the cue. His invention made it possible to play with effect. Overshooting, pulling and head butting became possible. A revolutionary development in billiards sports.
