What is a pool cue made of?

The upper part of a billiard cue is often made of Maple wood, but nowadays we also see more and more carbon. The bottom part can be made of various tropical wood types. The standard length of a pool cue is approximately 145cm, with a weight ranging from 18 to 22ouns. Most cues consist of two parts that can be screwed together, with threads made of wood or metal, such as brass. Nowadays there are also cues with titanium shackles, known as uni-loc or VP2 shackles.

For people who have difficulty getting the ball around, we recommend a slightly heavier cue because the cue then pushes the bale a bit. If you often play too hard, a lighter cue is useful. However, every player has his own preferences. You can try out all the pool cues we have in the store.

The top end of a pool cue has a leg also called a ferrule, nowadays usually made of plastic. Ivory was used in the past and is now banned. The very tip of the cue is the tip, a small piece of leather with an average thickness of 3-5 mm and a bulbous appearance, firmly glued in place.
