AVID Era — classic looks, modern performance
The AVID Era looks like a classic "sneaky-pete" cue, but that's where the comparison ends. It's designed for players who appreciate tradition but want to use modern technology to improve their game.
The cue is made of A-grade kiln-dried, vacuum-sealed hard Canadian maple and features the new AVID glass-bonded low-deflection shaft. This delivers a tight, reliable feel and accurate shots—now and for years to come.
Key Features
The shaft is available in 12.75, 12.25, and 11.75 mm, has a super straight taper, and features a Tiger Everest laminated tip. The butt is constructed of kiln-dried Canadian maple with six points adorned with cream and blue veneers on a gray stained base. The finish includes a fused cream butt cap, ring, and collar; there is no wrap. The cue has a 3/8" x 14" joint with CT logo joint protectors and is Duo Smart Extension-ready. The Acueweight Generation II system allows for easy weight adjustments. Five Cuetec Cleansing Wipes are also included.
Maintaining the AVID shaft
Treat the AVID shaft with care: sanding, polishing, or using abrasives is prohibited. Such treatments may damage the finish and the glass composite bond and void the warranty. Never use baby powder, hand chalk, talcum powder, or other shaft treatments.
To clean, you only need isopropyl alcohol (75% or higher) and two clean, soft cloths. First, wipe away dust and dirt with a dry cloth. Then, apply alcohol to a cloth and rub the shaft in long strokes while rotating it. Repeat until the cloth remains clean, then let the shaft dry thoroughly.
Tip and ferrule maintenance
The AVID shaft has a bright white sighting ferrule that makes tip changes easy. When replacing the tip, the ferrule must be cleaned and reground; the minimum ferrule height must be greater than 2 mm to maintain the warranty. Always have tip changes performed by an experienced, certified cuesmith and leave the shaft finish untouched.
If the ferrule ever needs to be replaced, this will only be done at an authorized Cuetec repair center due to the special bonding technique.
Adjusting weight and usage tips
You can adjust the cue weight using the cartridge system: remove the bumper with a 10mm Allen key, and turn a Phillips screwdriver counterclockwise in the butt to remove the weights. Available cue weights are 0.25 oz, 0.5 oz, and 1.0 oz.
The AVID shaft carries a limited lifetime warranty against warping. Avoid strong bending, hard impacts, and any treatment with abrasive or chemical agents. Also, never adjust the shaft diameter; any sanding or polishing damages the thin glass layer and voids the warranty.
